The dot SE ccTLD was created in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was really restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were acquired. Individuals could reserve no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, firms and organizations were able to reserve a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.

At present, anybody can register a dot SE name, which gives you the opportunity to reach the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence.
