These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. At first, solely third-level registrations were permitted, so if you planned to order john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already grabbed third-level domains remained operational.
